Sunday Post

Even though I'm only halfway through my so-called "summer hiatus", I thought I'd quickly share the vast array of things that I have in store for my return.

WIP Artwork

MUSIC BY CHANCE

This is something that I have been working on since I first started 'Wou' two and a bit years ago. A collection of tracks that use a number of homemade chance methods during the writing process. These include tried and test methods like 'The Furry Gamble' (Make It Pretty) and 'Buskers' Bamboozle' (MUSIC BY CHANCE: EP 01 & 02), among new ones, using playing cards and the general public to make music... confused? All will be explained in good time.

One of the most exciting parts of this project for me is the various artists now involved in it. Finished tracks feature the sounds and talents of Horse Enthusiast, Jonathan Beckenstein, {AN} Eel, Weighty Tree, Spicy Invalid, Ronny The Rocket, Falloon and Janine Levinson (of Janine and the Problem), to name but a handful.

'MUSIC BY CHANCE: Vol.1' will be released in the new year.

THE AUDIO BIN

I'm pleased to say that a new 'Audio Bin' LP is in the works, and, I'm calling out for new donations. So if you fancy being on the next LP and you've got a few unused recordings kicking around, please send them my way: wouwouandthewormling@gmail.com... anything you've got will be greatly appreciated.

Here's a playlist of everyone involved with the project so far:

WOU-WOU OPEN COLLAB

The 'Wou-Wou Open Collab' project will be a year old in September, and to celebrate I will be compiling a playlist (surprise, surprise) for every track under this umbrella. The next new 'collab' track will be out in October.

DEDICATION TO THE HYPOCRITES

I started working on this song with Couch King last September, but I'm happy to say it's sounding pretty finished now! Official release dates are not my forte, but it'll probably be the next thing released with my name attached to it, and I can't wait! It puts the "fun" in "funky" (apologies)... it also features pretzels malone and Jam York

ARTWORK FOR SALE

I've reached a point where I am running out of room for all my drawings. So, I've decided everything must go! The usual things apply... first come first served, and so-on. It all begins tomorrow on instagram, twitter and facebook, where I'll be sharing a doodle daily along with a pricetag and the full T&C's... heck, I'll even be throwing out a few freebies too.

Lastly, prints of my favourite 21 will be made available some time next month. Dates and details to come.

But for now, happy thoughts,

Sunday Post

I'm overwhelmed with the generosity that I've received towards my side-project, 'The Audio Bin'. I have to admit, I had my reservations when I first proposed it last February. I knew that there'd be a goldmine of unused audio and unfinished songs out there, but finding anyone who'd be willing to donate any of it to me I imagined to be highly unlikely. I mean, who really likes to share their shortcomings?

But thanks to SoundCloud's supportive and open-minded community, my fellow music makers offered up their out-takes in spades, and so, made 'The Audio Bin' possible.

In honour of those artists, tomorrow I release the self-titled 'The Audio Bin' album. Complete with new tracks, guest remixes and a booklet containing full credits, and of course the fine artwork of Eleanor Adair, Emma Parker and Lizzie Badger, who dressed this years tracks so well.

All of the above will be freely available on Bandcamp, with all existing 'Audio Bin' tracks on SoundCloud being made fully downloadable too.

Lastly, it was a goal of mine to create and upload a zine every month, but as you can see, there isn't one here. The current balance between my music and art isn't, well, balanced. So I'm moving to a seasonal zine release until things level out a bit.

The same goes for the Esty shop and postcards, there's just not enough time in the day lately. But things move in cycles, and eventually things will settle in favour of doodling and painting again.

Sunday Post

Tomorrow's upload, 'War', will be the last lone 'Audio Bin' release before the album drops in a week's time. Funnily enough, it was the first track that I did for this side-project, but it never felt quite ready to share, and it wasn't until more donations came through that I felt I had the material to truly call it "done".

Collectively those donations came from Couch King, joerxworx, Language of Shapes, pretzels malone, Robot Richard, Russell Sinfield, Storm the Palace, The Weighty Tree, wizardshoes and zeroplusplacebo, and once again, the talented Eleanor Adair is on track art duties.

And so, 'War', will be fully streamable from 'The Audio Bin' SoundCloud, and freely downloadable from next Monday (29/02/2016) when the self-titled album hits Bandcamp and SoundCloud.

More doodles to come throughout the week, and I might even get round to sorting that damn Etsy shop out!

Don't get me started on this month's zine either... all in good time my friends, all in good time.

Sunday Post

As I mentioned in previous posts, at the end of the month I will be releasing 'The Audio Bin [LP]'. It will mark the one year anniversary of my ongoing side-project, and will feature a number of guest remixes alongside old and new original tracks.

In the meantime the, 'Estranged', single will bridge the gap between now and the LP. This double release will include the title track 'Estranged' and b-side, 'Diggin'', and will also be available to stream/download from tomorrow.

Also, I'm exited to say that figurative artist, Eleanor Adair, has donated her inspiring and unique artwork to the project! Do check out her work, and everyone mentioned above (links in orange).

Art-wise, the usual mixed bag of paintings, doodles and graphic novel developments to come throughout next week.

Sunday Post

After a few minor setbacks, I'm pleased to announce that a new 'Audio Bin' track, 'A Seance for the Sceptic', will be available to stream over on SoundCloud from tomorrow. This time round it features audio kindly donated by crankyfox, joerxworx, Man On A Grill, Russell Sinfield and Storm the Palace, with artwork by Lizzie Badger

And while I'm still on the subject, 'The Audio Bin' will be a year old in February. I know, it's a while off yet, but I've been busy arranging a few wee surprises for this most modest of celebrations. Including guest remixes, bonus tracks, artwork and videos. How much of this will actually come to pass remains to be seen, but whatever happens all 'Audio Bin' tracks (complete with remixes) will be released as a downloadable album on both bandcamp and SoundCloud during the short month of Feb.

My other news is that I've decided to call it quits on my 'Sound Collage' project, with the few submissions I received going into the 'Audio Bin'. That said, I'm not off the idea, and they'll be many other things to join in with early next year.

Thanks to The Couch King, Jonathan Beckenstein and Language of Shapes for their audio contributions, and to Lizzie Badger for her artwork.

Sunday Post

The fourth track from my 'Audio Bin' side-project, Cannonball', is coming out tomorrow, and features only the audio kindly donated by The Couch King, Jonathan Beckenstein and Language of Shapes. On artwork duties this time around is resin totin' Lizzie Badger, with her intriguing and vibrant work. Be sure to check out what she's up to, along with taking time out to enjoy music from the aforementioned.

In other music news, earlier this week crankyfox released 'Back To Nature', a track which we started working on about half a year ago. It's definitely a mixed-bag of styles and sounds, to which I supplied guitar, bass and a few other elements. The rest is pure cranky, with hard hitting production and plenty of left-turns. It's a buffet for the ears for sure.

Lastly, along with the zines, sound collage and the various other things that I've been working on (chill out, it's all coming), I've started writing again. It's manifested from the numbness that I've been feeling toward drawing of late, and a longing to stretch myself a little further. It's already started to filter into the zines and will no doubt begin filtering into the other things I do to. Maybe even songs... (but like I always say) we'll see. Regardless, the odd bit of word play will certainly be coming next week and indefinitely from there.

Pop Waste

'Pop Waste', the latest 'Audio Bin' release, is out now!

Thanks again to The Couch King, pretzels malone and Spicy Invalid for donating to this project, and special thanks to Stitch Therapy for supplying the artwork.

If you've got any audio off-cuts, musical or otherwise, please do throw them in my direction... but if you haven't, just enjoy.

Sunday Post

'Pop Waste', the second track to be released via my 'Audio Bin' side-project, will finally be making it's way over to SoundCloud tomorrow. All 58 seconds of it was made possible by audio donations from The Couch King, pretzels malone and Spicy Invalid; with artwork supplied by the wonderful Emma Parker (Stitch Therapy). So a big thanks to them for their generosity and creativity.

That's not the only news though. The recent creative flurry that I mentioned a few weeks ago has now left me with over 70 demos, a small portion of which nearing completion. There's also a couple of new Robot Richard tracks, and a Anne_Lee collaboration surfacing over the next few weeks. Put that next to the various arty projects that I've been balancing, and you're going to see a whole lotta 'Wou' over the next month or so... hopefully you won't get too sick me, ay.

Karnak

Many thanks to But I prefer Romina Power, The Couch King, Jonathan BeckensteinLanguage of Shapes, pretzels maloneStorm the Palace and Weighty Tree for donating audio to this oddball project, and making this particular track sound the way it does.

Special thanks to Emma Parker for her wonderful artwork. The Sporz, and absolutely everyone who had a go at naming this track.

Next 'Audio Bin' track due 15/06/2015... 'till then, enjoy!

Sunday Post

I'd like to begin with Wednesday, and the naming of my first 'Audio Bin' track. I had a fair few suggestions, but in the end the hat decides and the first one out was (*drumroll*)... 'Karnak,' as suggested by The Sporz. Big fat massive thanks to him, and to everyone that joined in...

The track itself is a simple collage, crafted using only the audio kindly given to me. A real mixed bag of sounds and textures, which I reversed, chopped up, oscillated and looped the hell out of. Sounds horrific, but hopefully the end result pleases, even soothes.

'Karnak' will be released tomorrow, featuring audio donated by But I prefer Romina PowerThe Couch King, Jonathan Beckenstein, Language of Shapes, pretzels malone, Storm the Palace and Weighty Tree, with artwork by one of my favourite artists, Emma Parker.

'Karnak' isn't all on the horizon, as next week marks the first anniversary of 'Wou-Wou & The Wormling', a project that I set up to push myself into uneasy creative ground. Have I done that? Well maybe not as much as I'd originally set out to, but my work with chance certainly forced me into a few corners, as did my synesthesia paintings, continuous line drawing and the aforementioned 'Audio Bin' experiments. But overall it's been a balanced year. One of challenges and comfort. A space to just doodle and make music without wacky agendas. A byproduct of pushing myself to do something little unusual maybe? All I know is that I'm overwhelmed by the response that I've received in my first year acting as 'Wou...'.

So over next week I'm going to be doing a few special little things to say thanks. Thanks for all the support, positivity and good vibes. I didn't expect anything like it, 'Wou...' would be here without it, it's my therapy, but it's made so much better for all the love. It's made me dig a little deeper at times, given me new creative opportunities, but mostly, I've gained friends from it!

This extended thanks include's a special 52 track 'Wou-Wou Repost' retrospect of my favourite SoundCloud ditties from my first year under 'Wou...'. But I'll also be giving away various freebies, updating the society6 page with new prints and t-shirt designs, and sharing some of my favourite artists/blogs/tweeters/good-eggs throughout the coming weeks.

I aim to start work on some new creative experiments, paintings and other artsy techniques over the next week too. Things have grown a little stale for me again. Seems I can't stick at one thing longer than a month or so. Plus there's more music on its way, including a 'Jazz-Trap' track collaboration with the one and only Robot Richard. Whom, coincidentally released a track using my 'King Skirmish' beat stem from this months 'Stems' pack. His track 'Tyrant Skirmish' and MidiPunk's wonderful drum addition on 'Make It Pretty' are below for your enjoyment.

Besides [EP]

In the spirit of 'The Audio Bin', I thought I'd compile some of my first and worst recordings in this EP. The recordings span from 2005 to 2013, and were never meant for anyone to hear...

...but here they are, warts and all.

The Audio Bin

Everyone deserves a second chance, so why should be any different for audio? So much so that I'm setting up a collaborative project with a difference, 'The Audio Bin'. Inspired by Michael Landy's 'Art Bin', I'm wanting to give a second life to the sound recordings that you deemed not quite good enough. Those alternative takes that got thrown on the cutting room floor. The riff that never blossomed into a fully fledged song. The demo that got left behind after the studio recording was mastered.

I know, I'm going out on a limb here. It's a big ask asking for something that you're proud of, but asking for the things you're not... But wait, there's something I find very romantic about making something out of broken parts. It's the imperfections that we all react to, especially when it comes to music, so why not make music this way?

I also find the idea of recordings by different people, from different backgrounds, on different equipment, in different time-zones, all meeting together on a massive musical collage exciting.

So this is my pledge. Dig your undesirable audio snippets and stems out of the trash and we'll make something new and provoking out of it, together.

Singers and vocalists: I want your off-cuts, your overdubs, vocal warm-ups, unfinished refrains, whaling, scatting, beat-boxing, humming... Christ even just you reading out your shopping list! I want it all, no matter how off-key, no matter how horse. Egos at the door, we're all friends here, so gimme, gimme, gimme!

Drummers and percussionists: I want your bruised and battered beats, no matter how out-of-time or rhythmically offensive, fill me up!

Instrumentalists: I want your dodgy chord progressions, riffs, solos, noodles... even just you practising scales on an out tune nylon string guitar... anything at all.

Why stop at musical instruments? Why not throw some ambient sounds in there. Everything is, and can be an instrument these days. Your buzzing fridge, the traffic from your office window, the sound of your neighbours doing the nasty... well, maybe not the last one.

This is, and always will be a fun, none profit venture. And everyone who offers up their off-cuts will be  name-checked and in the loop of the creative process. It is a collaborative project after all.

If you're in you can send your audio, no matter what quality, to either the new 'The Audio Bin' SoundCloud page, via email wouwouandthewormling@gmail.com, or through my Dropbox if you've  plenty to send.

So what do you say, lets make music together.

Happy thoughts,
