Sunday Post

I'm in no doubt that 2015 has been a year of "firsts" for me creatively. In it, I began my sound recycling side-project 'The Audio Bin', explored aleatory in music with my 'MUSIC BY CHANCE' tracks, and dabbled in synesthesia painting. Although, the one thing that has had the most impacted me this year has been collaborating.

The act of creating something with someone a few thousand miles away is very exciting to me. It makes the world seem a little cosier, and I'm very grateful for it, and the many new friends that I have gained through doing it.

With that in mind, I thought it would only be right to collect all of the music that I have in some way been associated throughout 2015, and cram it all into one big playlist. Everything from my solo stuff, to the tracks produced by others via my 'Wou-Wou Open Collab' included. And when better to release it than New Year's Eve... gives anything that might sneak in over the next few days a chance, if nothing else.

But that's not all, because New Year's Day will see the release of my first LP, 'Memory of Origin'. It's a spacey, experimental guitar album which I recorded to compliment Lizzie Badger's artwork during her Open Studio exhibition. It'll be downloadable in it's entirety from Bandcamp, with the abridged EP version available, for free, from SoundCloud.

Well that's it, my last blogpost for 2015. I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me during the year and I'll see you in 2016!

Sunday Post

I'm very pleased to announce that 'Little One' (the third track to be released under my 'Wou-Wou Open Collab' offshoot) will be uploaded tomorrow, complete with stems for all you remixers and audio rejiggers out there.

The track itself has more in common with my 'Make It Pretty' track from 2014 than anything that I've done recently. A short and simple guitar ditty which never really got past the demo stage.

All being well, "Little One" won't the only track that I put out before the year is though. With an experimental album done and ready for release, the sixth 'Audio Bin' track nearly in the bag, and a remix of New Biboujin's 'Son of Alexie' also on the cards, it seems that December will be a little more musical than I'm used to lately.

More doodles and paintings on their way too. I know that I kinda neglect my arty things on here, but I'm planning to change that in the new year. But for now...

Sunday Post

After a few minor setbacks, I'm pleased to announce that a new 'Audio Bin' track, 'A Seance for the Sceptic', will be available to stream over on SoundCloud from tomorrow. This time round it features audio kindly donated by crankyfox, joerxworx, Man On A Grill, Russell Sinfield and Storm the Palace, with artwork by Lizzie Badger

And while I'm still on the subject, 'The Audio Bin' will be a year old in February. I know, it's a while off yet, but I've been busy arranging a few wee surprises for this most modest of celebrations. Including guest remixes, bonus tracks, artwork and videos. How much of this will actually come to pass remains to be seen, but whatever happens all 'Audio Bin' tracks (complete with remixes) will be released as a downloadable album on both bandcamp and SoundCloud during the short month of Feb.

My other news is that I've decided to call it quits on my 'Sound Collage' project, with the few submissions I received going into the 'Audio Bin'. That said, I'm not off the idea, and they'll be many other things to join in with early next year.

Sunday Post

I know, I've been pretty quiet recently. But unlike my last mini hiatus, it's mainly due to the influx of collaborative projects that I'm juggling. Everything from remixes to animations... it's all go! I'm also working hard to get my zines off of the ground. So simply put, things will be a little sparse 'till more things are ticked off my to-list.

That said, I am aiming to put-out my fifth 'Audio Bin' track later this month, as-well-as my second 'Wou-Wou Open Collab' track, 'Out///In', which I'll be releasing tomorrow.

I hope to be back properly in the new year, but 'till then I will be keeping my hand in a few things, including my weekly playlist and my 'Open Collab' sideline.

Sunday Post

It's been a busy few weeks here at Wou HQ, with offers and requests coming in left, right and centre. I'm not complaining though, far from it, I love to be busy. Especially when that busyness involves working with such wonderfully talented people. People like Ang Kerfoot...

I've wanted to work with Ang on something from the get go. Her cool, soulful voice and fearless, genre-blurring music is an inspiration. Needless to say, when I approached Ang with the demo of 'Strung', I had no idea what would come from it. All I knew was her voice was in my head when I listened to it so I just had to ask.

Of course, Ang is a total pro, and from my rough demo crafted a song way above my exceptions.

'Strung' will be released in it's entirety tomorrow. But, if you want to sample a taste, Ang released this beta version over the weekend... so dig in!

But that's not all, as the first two tracks to come from my new 'Open Collab' page were released this week...

... along with this gorgeous remix New Biboujin did of my track with, Anne_Lee.

Please be sure to check out all the aforementioned if you're not already aquatinted with them. And while you're at it, check out my 'Open Collab' page and 'Sound Collage' project if you haven't. Only a few weeks left to join in with the latter... just saying.

Faux Fur

My new open collab track, 'Faux Fur,' is out now... twist, tear and torment however you may wish!

Sunday 4 October 2015

Sunday Post

Last week I teased my new 'Wou-Wou Open Collab' project, and tomorrow it arrives in full force with 'Faux Fur', a short 'n' funky patchwork of phone recorded samples and loops.

Why is it up for open collaboration? It's unfinished, and honestly, I couldn't do much else with it (Lord knows I tried), but hopefully you can. Meaning, it'll be uploaded along with its stems for you to tinker with to your heart content. The only catch: you credit me on what you use... but that's a given, surely.

I'll respectfully repost and share anything created using 'Faux Fur' or any of my future 'Open Collab' tracks. I also plan to put out a variety of different stuff over there, so if this month's doesn't suit, maybe next month's will.

As always, new doodles, alt. lit and paintings will arise throughout next week. And if you haven't already, don't forget to submit your 'Sound Collage' answers to me... the deadline is looming!

Sunday Post

You'd think that I was toilet obsessed, what with track titles like 'Poop' and 'Glory Hole' to my name. Oh well, I guess tomorrow's release completes the trilogy...

Sound-wise, 'Baby Fudge' is certainly a departure from my usual hacked-up beats 'n' shit style. For starters, it's more human sounding thanks to the cymbal tickling powerhouse that is MidiPunk. Mirror that with pretzels malone's rich and creative vocal, and you've got something that's acres away from anything that I've been associated with before.

'Baby Fudge (feat. Pretzels Malone & MidiPunk)' is out tomorrow via SoundCloud...

In other music news, a week or so ago I set up yet another SoundCloud music page! You'd think three would be enough for anyone, but no.

Anyway, because I have so many unfinished tracks kicking about, I thought it'd be a novel idea to throw them out for open collaboration. Kinda like my 'Audio Bin', but inverted. It's something that I've toyed with for some time, and seeing how well The Couch King's 'Buttermilk Biscuits' free-for-all went, only encouraged me to give it a go myself.

The first track on the 'Wou-Wou Open Collab' page will be uploaded on 05/10/15, and will contain a master track along with all the stems that make it up. From then tracks will be uploaded every first Monday of the month... or that's the plan anyway.

I've also penned a loose date for my 'Sound Collage' to be released: 30/11/15. If you haven't joined in already, or you have no idea about what that is, check it out here and send me your replies before 31/10/15 to be part of it.

More abstract inks, cereal-box poems and oddball doodles throughout next week.

Cannonball

The new 'Audio Bin' track, 'Cannonball', is out now!

Thanks to The Couch King, Jonathan Beckenstein and Language of Shapes for their audio contributions, and to Lizzie Badger for her artwork.

Sunday 20 September 2015

Sunday Post

The fourth track from my 'Audio Bin' side-project, Cannonball', is coming out tomorrow, and features only the audio kindly donated by The Couch King, Jonathan Beckenstein and Language of Shapes. On artwork duties this time around is resin totin' Lizzie Badger, with her intriguing and vibrant work. Be sure to check out what she's up to, along with taking time out to enjoy music from the aforementioned.

In other music news, earlier this week crankyfox released 'Back To Nature', a track which we started working on about half a year ago. It's definitely a mixed-bag of styles and sounds, to which I supplied guitar, bass and a few other elements. The rest is pure cranky, with hard hitting production and plenty of left-turns. It's a buffet for the ears for sure.

Lastly, along with the zines, sound collage and the various other things that I've been working on (chill out, it's all coming), I've started writing again. It's manifested from the numbness that I've been feeling toward drawing of late, and a longing to stretch myself a little further. It's already started to filter into the zines and will no doubt begin filtering into the other things I do to. Maybe even songs... (but like I always say) we'll see. Regardless, the odd bit of word play will certainly be coming next week and indefinitely from there.

Sunday Post

With summer well and truly dwindling, it maybe seems a little late to be releasing a track called 'Summer's Too Hot'... but what the hey, like it really matters anyway. Especially when Robot Richard's back on track with his signature vocal.

I was intending it to be a two/three parter, with a remix tonic and a separate track 'Hot Tub', but time has escaped me yet again. I'm not in the habit of rushing something out because the season suits. All in good time and all that.

Anyway, 'Summer's Too Hot (feat. Robot Richard)' is out on SoundCloud from tomorrow.

In other news, the zines that I've been loosely working on for the last month or so are very slowly, but very surly coming together. I now have two or three finished, albeit in a very hap-dash manner. I'll start rolling them out in a few weeks, mainly because I'd just like to get a few in the bag before I start reeling them out. All zines will be upload here in PDF form and will be free to download, print and fold up yourself. But if that sounds like too much effort, I will be posting them page by page through social media, so you can see them there if you so wish. More info to come soon.

On a sightly different note, entries into my journal have been sparse at best this week. I'm still finding my feet I guess. I wanted to use it as a visual diary for all the subtle and odd things I see in the day, but I'm feeling like it should be more introverted and challenging. A reflection of my inner thoughts and feelings instead. We'll see.

Anyway, many more things going on besides the fore-mentioned, but I feel the need to keep somethings close to my chest 'till they're more finished.

But before I go, my track 'King Skirmish' turned a year old the other day. Time certain can and does fly. At the time it was the best thing I'd ever done, and in a lot of respects I still feel that way about it. I don't usually share my stuff more than once, but here it is again, incase if you missed it first time around:

Sunday Post

It couldn't sound further detached from my oddball instrumental 'Poop', but tomorrow's release, 'Hung', was recorded on the same day, using recordings taken from instruments in the same antique shop. It's something that I've been sitting on for nearly a year, and has gone through many changes. Whether or not this is the closest to "finished" I can make it remains to be seen, but it definitely feels like time to let go.

Arty news now, and my art journal shenanigans will start back up on Tuesday along with my character portraits and maybe the odd painting too.

But for now why not check out Lizzie Badger's free zine for which I supplied a doodle.

Sunday Post

Recorded in one of more inward moods, 'Exit Bag' is overall darker and eerier than my usual funk-laced noodles. With a backbone of strung out sounds, all bent out of shape, gnarled and lethargic. And a core of laired robotic chords. I see it as the sci-fi soundtrack that never was. An alien with human parts... which also happens to be out via SoundCloud and Bandcamp tomorrow.

On a more uptempo note, my version of The Couch King's 'Buttermilk Biscuit' is coming along nicely too. And may even be ready for a midweek release... but I'm promising nothing. As this open-collab has proven, it's pretty astonishing what can be done with just a single stem:

Finally, on top of the many collaborative projects and side-projects that I'm juggling at the moment, I've also started to plan out my first few zines. I'm aiming to have something ready in the next week or so, as I'm going for a rough and ready approach. But again, I'm promising nothing.

Whether or not I'll be selling them also remains to be seen, but the odd freebie is definitely on the cards.

Sunday Post

Being a huge admirer of Robot Richard and Sofia DeVille, I felt it a huge honour to be asked to produce their track 'Treehouse Gurl'.

I wanted to craft something that reflected the personality of everyone involved, including myself. The result is a track of chapters. Something that's always morphing and evolving, getting more and more distant from the original source material, almost edging into remix terrain by the end. But in a way I see it as journey through each of our own back-catalog too. With each of our own signature styles sharing light and space.

You'll know what I mean when 'Treehouse Gurl (feat. Robot Richard & Sofia DeVille)' is released tomorrow.

Course, this means that my monthly 'Stems' pack isn't making an appearance tomorrow. Basically I'm favouring the idea of a yearly bundle, more than likely during the festive period. So keep your ears to the ground around December for 'Wou...' open collabs.

And speaking of collaborations, I'm still after your submissions, be it to my new 'Sound Collage' project or my 'Audio Bin'. Please do check them out if you haven't already.

Finally, here's a little treehouse music to get you in the mood for 'Treehouse Gurl', courtesy of the treehouse girl herself...

Sound Collage

I was recently inspired by 'The Dreams', a series of atmospheric sound collages by Delia Derbyshire. Listening to it made me want to do something similar, just with the emphasise more on fun than on bleak. But to pull it off I'm going to need some help, so...

Below are three pretty run-of-the-mill questions that I'd love you to record yourself answering. Be as uncreative or creative with it as you wish. I'm not asking for honest answers per-say, just a recording that I can chop up and turn into something new. Anything goes.

It really doesn't matter how you record it either, as long as you're in a quiet spot, your phone will do.

Lastly, please don't pre-write what you're going to say. I'm after warts and all, so just go for it, you can't go wrong.

When you're ready:

1. Describe your perfect day
2. Describe your favourite meal
3. Tell me a joke

When you're done, please send your recorded reply off to: wouwouandthewormling@gmail.com

I'll do my darnedest to use at least a segment of everything that I'm sent. If you want to join in but don't want to be credited, please let me know and I'll keep your name off the list. And there's no deadline as of yet, but that will change once I start playing around with the audio I'm sent... but I'll keep you in the loop.

Thanks for your time,

Sunday Post

Many months ago I received a lovely little message from singer-songwriter Anne_Lee, asking me whether I could throw a fresh pair of eyes over a short vocal that she was struggling to elaborate on. I was flattered, I always am when people ask me to do stuff with/for them. Especially Anne, she's one of those voices that makes your hair stand on end. I felt honoured...

Many months later and 'This Is How' is finally ready for the wider-world... I don't know exactly what Anne was expecting this song to sound like, I know that I certainly didn't go out of my way to make it sound the way it does, I prefer it when things come about naturally. I do know whole lot of care and love went into it though.

Anyway, before I go I feel that it's kinda 'Wou-Wou...' tradition to share one of my favourite tracks by those whom I collaborate with, so here goes... genießen!

'This Is How (feat. Anne_Lee)' is out tomorrow.

'Pop Waste', the latest 'Audio Bin' release, is out now!

Thanks again to The Couch King, pretzels malone and Spicy Invalid for donating to this project, and special thanks to Stitch Therapy for supplying the artwork.

'Pop Waste', the second track to be released via my 'Audio Bin' side-project, will finally be making it's way over to SoundCloud tomorrow. All 58 seconds of it was made possible by audio donations from The Couch King, pretzels malone and Spicy Invalid; with artwork supplied by the wonderful Emma Parker (Stitch Therapy). So a big thanks to them for their generosity and creativity.

That's not the only news though. The recent creative flurry that I mentioned a few weeks ago has now left me with over 70 demos, a small portion of which nearing completion. There's also a couple of new Robot Richard tracks, and a Anne_Lee collaboration surfacing over the next few weeks. Put that next to the various arty projects that I've been balancing, and you're going to see a whole lotta 'Wou' over the next month or so... hopefully you won't get too sick me, ay.

Sunday Post

It's been a few weeks, I know. Recent shifts in my home life meant taking a creative breather, but it's feeling about right to start up again, so here goes, ready or not. Truth be told, I've probably been a little more creative than usual. In my sort break I've recording over 50 new demos, doodled, painted and even started on the collages that I promised myself I'd get around to many months ago.

Course, there were a few things that were put to one side last month due to my online absence. The second 'Audio Bin' track was shelved along with a special collaboration track with Anne_Lee. Both will be released throughout the month, along with 'Stems IV' which is out tomorrow and features selections from '0302: Apologetic Screw', 'Dirty Bomb' and 'The Hopeless Aurelian'.

Work has also begun on the third 'MUSIC BY CHANCE [EP]', and I'm even pursuing a new theme for my future creative experiments in the form of either limits/restrictions or my own take on automatic writing... but I'm getting ahead of myself (I always get ahead of myself).

Finally, many weeks ago The Couch King made me an administrator over on the wonderful 'Plastic Inevitable' facebook page, but so far I haven't had the time to post or share any music over there. Hopefully that'll change come next week, but for now, check it out and "like". There's acres of great handpicked tracks over there, so it won't disappoint. And while you're around hop over to the 'slezterprecords - Kids Club' and the Alternative Groovebox on SoundCloud. Two fantastic groups, bursting with great and colourful music, which I also happen to be loosely associated.

'Stems III' is coming your way tomorrow, with selections from 'Glory Hole', 'Lack Of Sleep' and '0301: Invincible Bark'.

Some of you might've noticed that I haven't been posting much in the way of artwork lately. Basically, I've decided to take a little break. It's nothing final. I just need a bit of time to recharge and explore different avenues. That said, there are a few new tracks on the horizon. So it won't be an all out hiatus, more a few weeks in the shade.

Sunday Post

When Robot Richard asked me whether I'd be interested in writing a trap track with him, of course I agreed. Working with Robot is a sheer joy. His sense of rhythm, rhymes and delivery have me floored at every corner. His sense of creativity, infectious... There was one thing though, bar the odd track here and there, I wasn't overly familiar with trap music. Saying that, I love a challenge and anything that pushes me into places of unknown creative potential.

What came out was something more themed on trap than actual trap. Probably as I went off on a diluted jazz-based tangent before the hack-up began. The result belongs somewhere between the two genres. Not fully committing to either, just dabbling with the ideas presented by both... But never mind my blabber, you can make your own mind up about 'Brain Stems' from tomorrow, when it parks itself over on SoundCloud.

Next 'Audio Bin' track due 15/06/2015... 'till then, enjoy!

Sunday 17 May 2015

Sunday Post

I'd like to begin with Wednesday, and the naming of my first 'Audio Bin' track. I had a fair few suggestions, but in the end the hat decides and the first one out was (*drumroll*)... 'Karnak,' as suggested by The Sporz. Big fat massive thanks to him, and to everyone that joined in...

The track itself is a simple collage, crafted using only the audio kindly given to me. A real mixed bag of sounds and textures, which I reversed, chopped up, oscillated and looped the hell out of. Sounds horrific, but hopefully the end result pleases, even soothes.

'Karnak' will be released tomorrow, featuring audio donated by But I prefer Romina PowerThe Couch King, Jonathan Beckenstein, Language of Shapes, pretzels malone, Storm the Palace and Weighty Tree, with artwork by one of my favourite artists, Emma Parker.

'Karnak' isn't all on the horizon, as next week marks the first anniversary of 'Wou-Wou & The Wormling', a project that I set up to push myself into uneasy creative ground. Have I done that? Well maybe not as much as I'd originally set out to, but my work with chance certainly forced me into a few corners, as did my synesthesia paintings, continuous line drawing and the aforementioned 'Audio Bin' experiments. But overall it's been a balanced year. One of challenges and comfort. A space to just doodle and make music without wacky agendas. A byproduct of pushing myself to do something little unusual maybe? All I know is that I'm overwhelmed by the response that I've received in my first year acting as 'Wou...'.

So over next week I'm going to be doing a few special little things to say thanks. Thanks for all the support, positivity and good vibes. I didn't expect anything like it, 'Wou...' would be here without it, it's my therapy, but it's made so much better for all the love. It's made me dig a little deeper at times, given me new creative opportunities, but mostly, I've gained friends from it!

This extended thanks include's a special 52 track 'Wou-Wou Repost' retrospect of my favourite SoundCloud ditties from my first year under 'Wou...'. But I'll also be giving away various freebies, updating the society6 page with new prints and t-shirt designs, and sharing some of my favourite artists/blogs/tweeters/good-eggs throughout the coming weeks.

I aim to start work on some new creative experiments, paintings and other artsy techniques over the next week too. Things have grown a little stale for me again. Seems I can't stick at one thing longer than a month or so. Plus there's more music on its way, including a 'Jazz-Trap' track collaboration with the one and only Robot Richard. Whom, coincidentally released a track using my 'King Skirmish' beat stem from this months 'Stems' pack. His track 'Tyrant Skirmish' and MidiPunk's wonderful drum addition on 'Make It Pretty' are below for your enjoyment.

3HD [EP]

- The Wormling

Sunday 10 May 2015

Sunday Post

New York funk rockers, Three Hippos Deep, let me take their tracks to the chopping block, and tomorrow I unveil my efforts in the '3HD [EP]'...

My goals for these remixes (much like the remix that I did for 'Storm the Palace') was to make something that stood apart from the original, but not so much that the two are totally disconnected from each other. I want you to be able to listen to both the original and the remix side-by-side without feeling like you'd just listened to the same thing twice, but deep down you know that they're related somehow.

But mostly, I wanted to make something playful and fun. 3HD's music appeals to me for much the same reasons. That and it funks like hell! But the fun factor was high on my list.

Anyway, I could try and describe something that you can't hear for hours, but instead why don't you come back tomorrow and hear it for yourself. But while you're waiting, why not wrap your ears around the funky originals to get a taste of what's to come. Bon appétit!

There's so many tidbits coming out over the Summer, I can barely contain my excitement! The fun begins with the audio snippets that I'm sharing in 'Stems II', which is out tomorrow...

But that really is the most minor of things when compared with the host of art and music collaborations, remixes and 'Audio Bin' releases coming out over the next few months.

And did I mention that 'Wou-Wou...' is officially a year old in a few weeks. I'm going to be doing some downloadable freebies, as well as compiling a special SoundCloud playlist of my favourite tracks from my first year doing 'Wou...'.

So forgive me the short post and the lack of detail in it, (especially since it's my first in nearly a month) but time is a'wasting and my to-do list is a'calling.

From tomorrow, I'll be posting three free stems for you to download and use however you may wish. All stems will come from my existing tracks, and will be a variety of live recordings, beats and oddments. The only catch, you credit me on what you use (but you knew that already, right).

Stems will be released on rotation, so every first monday of the month three new stems will replace any currently on my SoundCloud page, but all stems will remain available on request.

In other news, all my original artwork is now available to buy. It's all on a 'name-your-price' basis. So if you're interested, drop me a message and we'll work it out.

More doodles and paintings to come throughout the week.
